Dear Jennifer,This was my favorite Nintendo game. Sure, Super Mario Bros was awesome, but Joust was the game that for a long time we didn't have at home, and so I was obsessed with playing whenever I could find it.
If you haven't ever played - the basic idea is to make your flying ostrich sit on the heads of the bad guys - and then eat their eggs.
...it's a strange concept. Interestingly, there is a script version that was going around town where death-row inmates were given the option of fighting for their freedom on the back of large ostriches (ostriches that exist because cows had become extinct) for the general amusement of the public. Entertainingly, the writer of that script sued "Death Race" for using a story line where death row inmates are given the option of racing for their freedom for the general amusement of the public. I can't imagine the death-row-gladiator idea really originated with the writer of JOUST.
