Anything Can Be a Musical

Dear Jennifer,

Singer/Songwriters Jon and Al have a website that collects all of their amazing musical parodies of action and thriller classics like "Silence of the Lambs" and "Predator." Didn't realize that Predator would make an awesome musical? Prepare to be stunned.

TGI Duelists

Dear Jennifer,

There can never be too much referencing or parodies of The Princess Bride. Someone has gone to the great trouble of replacing the swords in the cliff top duel with, well, what Anakin would call "laser swords." Enjoy!

Would you see these movies if you knew what they were really about?

Dear Meredith:

Everything has two sides. Take a gander at this list of movie plot summaries, but told from a slightly different (yet equally truthful) point of view.

For example:
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: Woman with gold-digging mother nags wealthy man into marriage.

Well, it is the truth.

Fan Trailer!

Dear Jennifer,

Every so often, there is a fan-made trailer begging hollywood to step it up and deliver. This is one such well-edited plea for a Green Lantern film. Thanks to Ethan for the find!

Put the F**ing musical in the basket

Dear Jennifer,

I think parodies of "Silence of the Lambs" never get old. Here's a great (R rated) version: (thanks, Kemper!)

Dear Jennifer,

Sorry that I have been so ill lately and unable to provide you sweet procrastination. I hope this can make up for it.

Star Wars funkified

Dear Jennifer,

Need some art combined with pop culture combined with conjecture? These two Youtube videos explore what the STAR WARS opening credits would look like if Saul Bass had done them.

You may recall Saul Bass as being the dude who made posters like this:

Well, some cool person on the internet did a "what if?" with STAR WARS and Saul Bass. If Saul Bass had done the opening titles of STAR WARS, they would have (maybe) looked like this:

Even awesomer is how an even cooler person on the internet did a mockup of how the credits would have looked on the REDUX of STAR WARS. Check out the change to Harrison Ford's introduction, and the final, explosively amazing, image. Well pontificated.

Dear Jennifer,

Do you like Guinea Pigs?

I mean really really like Guinea Pigs?

More fun with Movie Posters!

Dear Jennifer,

I submit for your entertainment a whole new blog with fun versions of movie posters for novelizations. I think my favorite may be HIGHLANDER:

There are bonus points if you can guess the Japanese translated one's original English title:

The lore of Rape Bear

This is a funny website authored by a screenwriter out here in LA that "teaches" readers how to write for film and tv using ridiculously hilarious examples, and creates fantasy scenarios in screenplay format. By far one of the funniest is his pitch to Spielberg of his original work "RapeBear." Scroll down to "On Follow Up Calls" for the Rape Bear tale. (And there are quite a few others that are also entertaining, spend some good procrastinatey time poking around). In case you can't tell - none of this advice is actually helpful. For entertainment purposes only.

Acting with James Franco

Funny or Die is a beautiful thing. It allows celebrities a receptacle for their own viral videos. Sometimes you see a celebrity make a total ass out of themselves and realize how completely unfunny he/she actually is. And sometimes you get high comedy art.

Star Trek 90210

This is perhaps the most brilliant video of 2008. Expect this one to get forwarded to you a billion times over. What would Gene Roddenberry think, I wonder? It is shocking how many of JJ Abrams' shots meld perfectly with the teen soap music.

Happy "Shining" Trailer

There was a film editing competition a while back where editors were asked to cut trailers for famous films in a completely different genre. My favorite - and I believe this was the winner - is this trailer of "The Shining" that makes you think you're about to see a romantic comedy. Jack Nicholson's mania suddenly becomes physical humor, the dreaded hotel room door becomes heartwarming, and a creepy kiss with a dead girl becomes romantic. Amazing.

Sick (in both senses) animation!

I was researching a comic book artist I have recently admired and discovered that he creates animated web shorts of a comical, and dark, nature. They're amazing. The "pilot" web short spoofs action movies, later web shorts include animated gore. What more could a girl ask for?

What's it gonna beeeeeeeeee?

This is my favorite Youtube music video of all time. An oldie-but-a-goodie (since it's over a year old). I believe "Dr. Ken" who wears the silver unitard and magically appears throughout the song, is an actual doctor. I think, a dentist. (Mature language)

A short film about an unusual job interview

ADVISORY - this short film has R-rated language...making it very, very funny.
