Dr. Seuss Does Star Wars

Dear Jennifer,

A wonderful web artist, Adam Watson, has decided to see if he could sketch Dr. Seuss' version of Star Wars. It is a fantastic collection of little drawings. The one of Yoda rhyming about being 900 years old would make for a great birthday card.

I'm finished!

Dear Jennifer,

This is a video of the 16-bit game of "There Will Be Blood" that Leslie emailed me. Watching Daniel Day Lewis' rampage in fast motion is probably better than ever playing the game myself. Enjoy!

I love receiving mail.

Dear Meredith:

This is an awesome idea, if just a wee bit creepy. (While I do love receiving mail, i don't like receiving mail from people I don't know.) Lenka Clayton and Michael Crowe took it upon themselves to send a handwritten letter to everyone first in a village in Ireland, than in a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. If you follow the link, you can see all the mail they sent.

Pretty pretty letters.

Dear Meredith:

I'm a sucker for creative lettering - if I can't actually produce it, at least I can admire it, right?

See the world from a different perspective

Dear Meredith:

This handy website converts pictures you've taken so that they look like photographs of miniature scale models. It's sort of awesome. The picture on top is one I took when in Porto, Portugal over the summer - and the one on the bottom is the tilt-shifted version.

Say what you want..

Dear Meredith:

Tired of all those ads and billboards and basically corporate advertising everywhere you look? Do what these people did - print out some huge cartoon dialogue bubbles and add your own stamp to things.

State by state.

Dear Meredith:

This is DEFINITELY worth checking out. (Although, aren't all our links?) In the 50 States Project, a photographer from each state was chosen to take pictures of his/her state over the course of a year. Every two months, they're given a topic, and are then told to take one picture that best fits that topic. It is awesome.

This is how I'm going to lead my life from now on.

Dear Meredith:

Gosh, I love this dreamy ad for Dior's Miss Dior Chérie perfume. It's directed by Sofia Coppola, and set in Paris. I think I need to move to Paris RIGHT NOW and have this sort of hazy rose-colored-lens happy life.

A bird's eye view.

Dear Meredith:

When I fly, I always try to get aisle seats. But watching this video, in which some fella videotaped city lights as he flew over them on a cross-country trip, is just so beautiful that I might reconsider the next time I fly get on a plane.

Scanner art.

Dear Meredith:

This is what happens when you get to use CT scanners for art, and not for science. It's just fascinating.

A little bit of whimsy for your Friday.

Dear Meredith:

It's Friday! Since it's probably a slow day at work, take the time to watch Le Ballon Rouge, or The Red Balloon, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1956.

Dear Jennifer,

Sorry that I have been so ill lately and unable to provide you sweet procrastination. I hope this can make up for it.

There's just something so relaxing about the surf.

Dear Meredith:

Oh, how I wish I was at the beach right now. But it's only Wednesday. Then again, I work from home - what's keeping me from leaving? Since you're stuck at work though, enjoy these gorgeous photographs from Christian Chaize, who has taken pictures of the same beaches in Portugal from the same angle over an extended period of time. The photos are just lovely.

More poetry!

Dear Jennifer,

If it's good enough for Christopher Walken to promote on his Twitter page, then it's good enough for us.

The things people think of...

Dear Meredith:

Gosh, I love Kim Carnes's "Bette Davis Eyes." I also love this video, in which the artist uses mascara to draw Bette Davis. It's all set to the song, of course, which is now mercilessly stuck in my head. Crap! And now may it be stuck in yours.

I always knew Linus was no good

Dear Jennifer,

Let's talk about comics for a second. Frank Miller is the guy who wrote and drew SIN CITY.

Okay, you're all caught up.

Here are two amazing fantasy comic book pages done by someone who wanted to see what Charlie Brown stories would look like if Frank Miller was assigned to them.

It's the panel about Charlie Brown's sister having a tragic love for Linus which will only break her heart that is my favorite. (Click on the second page at the bottom of the screen to continue)

ENJOY!

Star Wars funkified

Dear Jennifer,

Need some art combined with pop culture combined with conjecture? These two Youtube videos explore what the STAR WARS opening credits would look like if Saul Bass had done them.

You may recall Saul Bass as being the dude who made posters like this:

Well, some cool person on the internet did a "what if?" with STAR WARS and Saul Bass. If Saul Bass had done the opening titles of STAR WARS, they would have (maybe) looked like this:

Even awesomer is how an even cooler person on the internet did a mockup of how the credits would have looked on the REDUX of STAR WARS. Check out the change to Harrison Ford's introduction, and the final, explosively amazing, image. Well pontificated.

XKCD for thee!

Dear Jennifer,

What you need in your life is the joy that can only be brought by a webcomic that is a combination of "Romance, Sarcasm, Math and Language."

Enjoy

Folding your way to fun.

Dear Meredith:

Oh, it is still Monday? To help you pass this tedious day, perhaps a little bit of origami will help get your creative juices flowing. Or, at the very least, you'll have something physical to show for all of your procrastination.

I mean really really like Guinea Pigs?
